Why Smart Moms Are Part Time Employment Experts

Smart Moms was created with the goal of putting part-time jobs and stay-at-home moms together.  Over the years, our goal has broadened to include connecting all women who are interested in working with a  family-friendly employer especially those that offered remote or work from home jobs.  Smart Moms has found many companies that are thrilled to find skilled part-time workers that can start working without a lot of training to get them up to speed.  

Since 2003, we have brought more than 450 professional workers and businesses together.

  • Smart Moms maintain 5 social media channels that collectively receives 5000 visitors per month and growing.

Smart Moms was created with the goal of putting part-time jobs and stay-at-home moms together.  A greater need among these moms was the desire to find work from home jobs.  Smart Moms soon found many companies that were thrilled to find skilled part-time workers that could start working without a lot of training to get them up to speed.  Though work-at-home opportunities were fewer, the positions that resulted worked extremely well for both the employers and employees.

Since 2003, we have brought more than 100 part-time workers and businesses together.  Smart Moms’ database of job seekers grows daily.  We maintain two lists:  One list of candidates that are interested in hearing about part-time opportunties - Classifed Job List .  Our 2nd list of candidates is interested in learning about part-time work and have submitted their information to be included in our prescreened employment recruiting database. 

Here’s a snapshot:

  • Classified Ad List - 630 registered emails and growing by 5-7 candidates per week 
  • Employment Recruiting Database - 280 registered top quality candidates 
    • 54% of our candidates have 10-25 years experience
    • 50% of our candidates have a BA or higher 

Smart Moms maintain two websites (www.smart-moms.net & www.smart-moms-online.com) that exchange similar traffic.  Both sites are collectively receiving 10,000 visits per month and growing.

The company's main office is in Cary, NC. The boutique and coaching firm services clients in Cary, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and virtually. The company has helped  hundreds of businesses find moms (& dads) with professional skills who are committed to part-time, full-time, contract and remote opportunities.

When Garla was 18, she watched her mom experience her first stroke at the age of 49.  As a single parent, her mom had been working a full-time job and two part-time gigs to ensure additional income for the family.  This real life work imbalance created a special calling in Garla to help women of all walks navigate work life balance through the various life seasons.  

Currently, Garla along with her husband  is raising two daughters and places high value on community involvement.   She is active in the National Association of Businesses and Employers (NACE), Business and Professional Women (BPW) and Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA). These resources allow Smart Moms to establish a recruiting edge among recruiters for remote jobs. 

Prior to co-founding Smart Moms, Garla was a Manufacturing Engineer and Documentations Specialist for Hewlett Packard and Applied Materials. She received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and earned her MS in Mechanical Engineering (Concentration Manufacturing) from North Carolina A&T University. She has delivered over 8000 hours of career coaching services and completed her Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Certification which enables her to provide standardized career development skills to her clients (specializing in women employers, women job seekers and students).

Vanessa has worked as an Administrative Assistant for 15+ years in the following settings: funeral home, human resource, medical, marketing, mortgage company and real estate.  Skilled in MS Office, she is a detail oriented manager and  capable of working independently with minimum supervision.   She enjoys learning new skills.

She lives with her husband and twin daughters. Vanessa enjoys traveling, helping people, and spending time with family and friends.
